A survey of mobile operators shows they are committed to VoLTE, but have no hurry to make the transition.

After much anticipation, voice is finally moving to IP. Operators are fully committed and they increasingly see the advantages of moving from circuit-switched to packet-switched voice.

They also have little choice if they want to support voice in their new LTE networks, as LTE no longer supports the circuit-switched voice transport used in 2G and 3G that is still pervasive today – and if they want to fully benefit from LTE’s higher spectral and cost efficiency in new deployments, and, eventually, from spectrum refarming.
