Welcome to our March issue!

The 5G Era is officially here as witnessed during Mobile World 2018 in Barcelona. #MWC18 was a fantastic event for Radisys as we unveiled new solutions and partnerships for how we’re enabling the path to 5G with RAN Aware MEC solutions – the key is Open.

Our open mobile innovations for 4G and 5G were on full display in the ONF booth. Napatech along with Xilinx featured the industry's first virtualized RAN Accelerator, powered by Radisys' market-leading MobilityEngine™ RAN software. Our CEO, Brian Bronson, met with Mobile World Live to highlight how Radisys is delivering open telecom solutions to break the vendor lock-in and help mobile operators evolve the traditional ways of building mobile networks. Check out the full video of Brian here.

Among the many announcements at MWC18, perhaps one of the most interesting was on the formation of the carrier-led ORAN initiative to drive more openness into the evolution of radio access networks. Radisys continues to be strongly committed to Open Telecom and in this edition of our OpenReach newsletter, we feature a new Radisys sponsored whitepaper with Heavy Reading on the growing importance of emerging Open RAN architectures for 4G & 5G.

In light of these initiatives, we are  excited to let the community know that we now offer an open-source RAN software for the Qualcomm FSM9955 chip-set. You can download this software here.

This joint Solution Brief from Rohde & Schwarz and Radisys explains how CSPs are increasingly transforming their networks into datacenters. However, in order to handle the massive growth in data traffic, they need to be able to scale their networks efficiently to handle the resulting high throughput requirements and dynamic network requests. This informative brief explains how the high-performance networking and security solution that Radisys and Rohde & Schwarz has built comprised of Radisys' FlowEngine™ TDE-2000 and Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity's R&S Traffic Analytics Solution provides a highly flexible, real-time and low latency solution.

Watch and listen to this video recorded live at MWC 2018 featuring Radisys' Rishi Maulick and Rohde & Schwartz's, Irina Palade explaining this very effective, joint solution.

The open network evolution is forcing service providers, system integrators, and vendors to seek out both technically and commercially disruptive solutions to meet new application demand. How do they leverage their existing investment to cost effectively migrate to cloud datacenters, and seamlessly integrate multi-vendor solutions? The technology adoption by the vendor community and carrier’s operations team is at an early stage and faces many challenges in stitching together an end to end solution.

Radisys provides turn-key services to modernize central offices and core networks with Cloud Data Center technologies using open reference architectures.

Learn more about our ServiceEngine offerings that include Conceptualization, Network Design & Integration, Field Deployment, Software Customization, Testing & Automation, and Global Support. Be sure to read these new set of Solution Briefs (below) to discover how Radisys can accelerate your commercialization for Open Source solutions at lower cost and risk.

The mobile service providers are grappling with increasingly complex megatrends. From 4G cloud RAN (C-RAN), 5G New Radio (NR), CBRS private LTE, NB-IoT, to multi-access edge computing (MEC), there are opportunities and challenges abound.

Telecom and Wireless Service Providers globally are trying to find ways to transform their networks to compete with web scale players. The increasing demand of data coupled with decreasing revenues per user has underlined the need to lower the cost per bit. Communication Service Providers (CSPs) are also taking on web scale players in the digital services domain and need to compete in terms of infrastructure cost, agility and time to market for new services.

Driven by the insatiable demand for innovative multi-media services and competitive pressure from Over-the-Top cloud providers, Communications Service Providers (CSPs) are accelerating their deployments of VoLTE, VoWiFi, browser based multi-party video conferencing, and cloud communication platform as a service (CPaaS) delivering WebRTC based contextual interactive services. Legacy networks are increasingly transformed to an all IP communications network; and carriers are embracing cloud native NFV virtualization to benefit from service agility, service innovation, and CAPEX and OPEX cost reduction.
